I always enjoy doing this post every week, but it also poses a huge problem for my TBR pile and my wish list as I keep adding new books and the pile just never seems to shrink. I went to the library the other week just to return a movie, and walked out with four books and three others on hold. Not what I was planning, but what is a lil' ol' book lover to do? Well, I go to the bookstore and check out what's new there (lol)!!! The following books all release October 5, 2010.
Behemoth (Leviathan, Book 2)
by Scott Westerfeld
The behemoth is the fiercest creature in the British navy. It can swallow enemy battleships with one bite. The Darwinists will need it, now that they are at war with the Clanker powers.
Deryn is a girl posing as a boy in the British Air Service, and Alek is the heir to an empire posing as a commoner. Finally together aboard the airship Leviathan, they hope to bring the war to a halt. But when disaster strikes the Leviathan's peacekeeping mission, they find themselves alone and hunted in enemy territory.
Alek and Deryn will need great skill, new allies, and brave hearts to face what's ahead.

by Cinda Williams Chima
You can't always run from danger...
Haunted by the loss of his mother and sister, Han Alister journeys south to begin his schooling at Mystwerk House in Oden's Ford. But leaving the Fells doesn't mean danger isn't far behind. There, Han meets Crow, a mysterious wizard who agrees to tutor Han in the darker parts of sorcery-but the bargain they make is one Han may regret.
Meanwhile, Princess Raisa ana'Marianna runs from a forced marriage in the Fells, accompanied by her friend Amon and his triple of cadets. Velocity (Karen Vail, Book 3)
by Alan Jacobson
FBI profiler Karen Vail returns in Velocity, national bestselling author Alan Jacobson's most explosive thriller to date. Vail's boyfriend, Detective Robby Hernandez, has seemingly disappeared into the dense air of a Napa Valley evening. There are no clues to his whereabouts, other than a blood stain - and potential connections to a serial killer operating in the wine country.
Despite using all means at her disposal to find out what happened to Robby, Vail's efforts are thwarted until her colleague, Detective Paul Bledsoe, hooks her up with Hector DeSantos, a covert Defense Department operative who has a knack for finding difficult to locate information. But DeSantos is an unwilling partner, and other than offering superficial cooperation to pay back the debt he owes Bledsoe, he is reluctant to work his valuable informants for what he views as Vail's personal crusade to find her lover.
That is, until Vail pries loose long-buried secrets, lies, and deceptions on the part of her own task force members. It's information that even DeSantos can't ignore, a discovery of great magnitude that reveals larger forces at play - forces which propel Vail and DeSantos into a frantic search that takes them from the wineries of Napa Valley to the monuments of Washington, D.C., the wealthy beach enclaves of San Diego, and the bright excesses of Las Vegas.

The Witches' Kitchen
by Allen Williams
When Toad wakes up, dangling over a bubbling witches' cauldron, she has no memory of her former life, not even her name. With some luck, she escapes and sets out on a journey to the oracle of the kitchen. Along the way, she makes friends with Natterjack, an imp who refuses his demon ancestry; Horsefly, a carnivorous fairy; and Pug and Sootfoot, residents of the Kitchen. But the Kitchen and the witch sisters it belongs to, is not a place one wants to end up lost. The Kitchen is pitch black and infinite, filled with furniture that constantly moves when unobserved, making navigation nearly impossible. Its residents are both animals from the outside, unwitting victims of the Witches, and creatures who were born or made in the Kitchen itself - many of whom would not mind eating the Toad and her friends. And let's not forget the Witches themselves, who seem to have a special interest in the Toad. With some courage and wisdom, the Toad just might find self-realization yet - and with it, the power to defeat the mighty Witches.
by Claire Barker
