Curling Up By The Fire would like to welcome Carrie Ann Ryan, author of An Alpha's Path, released December 1st, 2011. Here is a synopsis of her new book.
Melanie is a twenty-five year old chemist who has spent all of her adult life slaving at school. With her PhD in hand, she's to start her dream job, but before she does, her friend persuades her to relax and try to live again. A blind date set up through her friends seems like the perfect solution. Melanie can take one night away from the lab and let her inner vixen out on a fixed blind date - a chance to get crazy with a perfect stranger. The gorgeous hunk she's to meet exceeds her wildest dreams – but he is more than what he appears and Melanie's analytical mind goes into overdrive.
Kade, a slightly older werewolf (at over one hundred years), needs a night way from the Pack. Too many responsibilities and one near miss with a potential mate made Kade hide in his work, the only peace he can find. His brother convinces him to meet the sexy woman for a one night of fun. What could it hurt? But when he finds this woman could be his mate, can he convince her to leave her orderly, sane world and be with him and his wolf-half, for life.

Finding the Chemistry
I’m a chemistry teacher. So you’d think finding the “chemistry” in a novel would be easy. Right? *scoffs* Finding the chemistry between a hero and heroine can sometimes make or break a story.
Not to mention finding that ever fleeting chemistry between the reader and the story.
Kind of important right?
Some heroines and heroes have a combustible chemistry to start with. Light a match and the whole thing goes up in flames. Sizzling and sexy, these relationships jump off the page and you want to dive right in and dare to be burned.
Others are like a crock pot. LOL. Slow and steady, they churn and find one another until they are juicy and tender, fall-off-the bone romance. (I’m suddenly very hungry. J)
It’s the author’s job to find that chemistry and see what their characters need in order to live and now burn out.
In An Alpha’s Path, Kade and Melanie are in the first group. Kade prowls across the room, hard and damned sexy, and Mel wants him. Her scent draws the werewolf in him to her. And once they come together – BAM. Explosion of chemistry and lust.
I love reading about both types and everything in between. The romance and story building immersed in a chemistry of attraction is what makes me love romance and why I’m a romance junkie. And proud of it.
What do you need in chemistry? What type do you like?

Excellent post!
ReplyDeleteI think for me, as a writer and reader, one of the essdential elements to chemistry has to be humor.
